NOT TOO LONG AGO, cervical cancer was the number one cause of cancer death for women in the U.S. But today, it’s fallen to 10th place, largely because of Pap testing. Since 1950, the rate of new cases and the number of deaths from the disease have dropped by more than 50 percent. Still, approximately 11,070 cases of invasive cervical cancer will occur in the U.S. this year, and an estimated 3,870 women will die of it. Women should get a Pap test every year or two.

PEDICURES CAN HELP YOUR FEET LOOK AND FEEL BETTER, as long as you avoid the risk for infection and injury with these recommendations: Bring your own instruments, including clippers, files, and pumice stones, along with flip flops to avoid contracting athlete’s foot. Ask your pedicurist to cut your nails straight across instead of curving the edges to avoid ingrown nails. Do not have calluses cut. Instead, ask that your pumice stone be used.

The most common signs and symptoms include waking up feeling tired, excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, breathing cessation while sleeping, morning headaches, and startled awakening with shortness of breath.

MORE THAN 80 PERCENT OF ADULTS AGES 57 AND OLDER take at least one prescription drug a day, and about half of them regularly mix drugs with over-the-counter medications and supplements. A recent study found approximately one in 25 older adults experiences a major drug interaction. To prevent these occurrences, they should get all prescription drugs filled at a single pharmacy to allow the pharmacist to do a thorough drug interaction check each time a new one is filled.

ALLERGY AND ASTHMA TRIGGERS ABOUND IN WARM WEATHER. To reduce your exposure, run the air conditioner in your home and vehicle. Cut back on morning activities when pollen counts are usually highest.
