Fruit Juice

Photo of orange juiceFruit juice is packaged in many ways: as a frozen concentrate, refrigerated in cartons or bottles, and unrefrigerated in bottles or cans. Drinking fruit juice can provide you with nutrients such as potassium, vitamin C, and even calcium (when you buy juice with calcium added). It will help meet part of your daily fruit requirement, although juice contains little, if any, of the fiber found in fresh fruit, and fruit juice is usually high in sugar.

Here are some shopping tips:

  • Choose products that are made from 100 percent fruit juice.
  • Avoid products in which corn syrup appears ahead of fruit juice in the ingredients.
  • Be aware of products that list apple juice as the main ingredient while claiming to be juice from another type of fruit. These products are often labeled as fruit cocktails, juice blends, or “flavored” juice.
