Breakfast Bars

Photo of a girl eating a granola barGranola bars and cereal bars are the two most common types of breakfast bars on supermarket shelves. Some are high in fiber and low in sugar, but others might as well be in the candy aisle—with too much sugar and very little nutritional value. Here are some shopping tips:

  • Choose breakfast bars that are high in fiber, with whole grains such as rolled oats or whole wheat listed near the top of the ingredient label.
  • Opt for bars with the least sugar, preferably with fewer than 10 grams per serving.
  • Check bar size and calories. While most single servings are equal to one bar, the bar weight can vary, as can calories.

Going by the Numbers
The following chart displays calories, fat, fiber, and sugar content for a variety of breakfast bars. Serving sizes vary.
